Formula and method

Affiliate clicks = visitors × link CTR ÷ 100. Conversions = clicks × conversion rate ÷ 100. Affiliate earnings = conversions × commission per conversion. Display-ad earnings = pageviews × Page RPM ÷ 1,000. Difference = affiliate − ads.

Worked example

Illustration only: 10,000 visitors, 5% link CTR, 3% conversion and £10 per sale gives £150 affiliate earnings. 20,000 pageviews at £8 Page RPM gives £160 ad earnings. Both together give £310 before costs.

Interpreting the result

Compare assumptions, not a universal winner. Both models can coexist. Use visitors and pageviews from the same site and period; estimated sales can be fractional.

Assumptions and limitations

Rates remain constant except for the traffic growth explicitly entered in the forecast. Projections are arithmetic equivalents, not predictions of a calendar month or year. Actual revenue varies with audience, geography, content, demand, ad setup and eligibility. No revenue, traffic level or outcome is guaranteed.
